Info on a Benchmade Automatic

I was able to score a bunch of free knives at work...a lot were junk, and then I saw this well-used workhorse...I think it is a Mini-Reflex, it looks mostly like it on the Benchmade website. There is no model listed on the blade, nor steel type. The action is awesome! I think it might be older, as the blade markings do not look like the current. could anyone let me know its approximate age? If I send it to Benchmade, could they spruce it up? Thanks for any info!

Those markings look super old, so you are at least pre-2000. Guess late 90's or better. It is a 2550 Mini-Reflex. The model number maybe off a bit, I know Benchmade autos adjusted model njmbers with up grades so if someone knows more chime in. Depending on size it could be the full sized version.

Unless you are qualified to own an auto under the provisions of the Switchblade Act, then Benchmade will not be able to ship the knife back to you. If that is the case, you will need to find a Benchmade dealer who will handle the transaction.

I am qualified to own it...do you think Benchmade would cover any work under warranty? I am thinking that I would want a new satin, straight edge blade, I would assume they would charge for that.

You got this for free? Nice find! I don't think that Benchmade would have anymore of these blades in stock. Your best bet would be to call or email them and find out what they may be able to do for them. Benchmade has great customer service. If you do ship it in for freshening up, there is a form that you need to fill out from the Benchmade website stating that you are in Military or Law Enforcement, otherwise like MarkG said, you may not get it back.

Sorry bad info on my part. I thought that it was a discontinued model. Looks like they still have them for sale on the Benchmade website. I think that they can replace a blade for like $25 or so.

A blade swap may cost you some money. However they should check it over and replace what needs to be, I would want a spring update. Most of that would be done for the price of shipping.

Great find! You should just give them a call. Their customer service is excellent and they can answer all of your questions. Here's the link to their contact info on their website "LINK".

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't change the blade. Have them give it a spa treatment. If you want a newer plain edge version, just buy one since you're eligible. BladeHQ has them for a very good price. They're great to deal with and a BladeForums supporter.

Long discontinued model 2000. I doubt they would have a blade for it but all the internals are probably available.

That's a prize and I second the opine that it should be serviced and left alone. The overall pattern of use makes it a great looking knife. Send it, have it cleaned and sharpened while thanking your workplace for an old classic Benchmade...!

Why wouldn't you get it back if they are perfectly legal in your state, even to carry? Police are civilian no different than anyone else shouldn't make a difference.

In the great state of New York, as well as many other states, it is illegal for non-law enforcement to own automatic knives. I don't agree with it, I also don't agree with the differences in the firearms laws. The laws are what they are.

Sure I understand if you live in a non free state. You can't buy certain things online and have them shipped to those states either. But it makes no sense for the other states where they are legal.

Basically what I'm getting at is if I pick up an auto knife locally which is completely legal and it had some issues down the road and I send it to Benchmade its now gone?

I've sent in a pistol for warranty work and it was shipped right back to my doorstep. So there is nothing legally stopping them from shipping an auto knife that's what I'm getting at. I don't believe Benchmade would just steal your knife, can't be right.

It is against federal law to send an automatic knife across state lines. That is what the form that you fill out states. So even if you purchased it legally in your state of residence, Benchmade can only ship it to an authorized Benchmade dealer, or directly back to you if you are LE or Military. Pain in the ass, but laws are laws and we gotta abide by them.

Looked at the 2000...I think that one has a 4 inch blade...my knife has a about a 3.1 inch blade. But the new 2550's have a safety on the top...mine doesnt have any safety at all.

Did they make smaller 2000's?

Nevermind...on a whim, I typed in Benchmade 2500 into Google, and there it was!

Anyone have any info as to when they discontinued this model?
