Hello all... Been able to pick up a bunch of free knives at work, looking for a bit of info on this one. I think it is a Stockman, as it resembles it the most on the Buck website. I am not sure of the model number as it is not on the blade. Can anyone help me with its birthday? It's in solid shape, I am not sure what material was used for the scales. Any info on this model would be great!

You have a Schrade made Buck Contract model 303 or 301, depending upon length. If it is around 3 7/8" closed, it is a model 301. If closed length is around 3 1/4, it is a model 303. In either case, the knife would have been produced in the 1967-68 time frame. At about that time, Buck switched the contract to Camillus.

Without a measurement, it appears to be a 301 sized early Buck Stockman. Made under contract by Schrade. Both secondary blades stamped BUCK on tang is the third version, made 1967 - 1971. They are finely made but have a drawback in that the hidden blade pin construction is slightly weak and with extra heavy pushing pressure will bend things, both pin and liner possible, and make the blade(s) loose. Buck changed contractors because with there lifetime warranty the repair time and cost was greater than the Camillus method of thru bolster pivot pins.

This hidden bolster pin method was sometimes called the Swinden method of construction. Comes in a 301 and 303 sized model. As mentioned watch buying them sight un-seen as they could have been abused and have loose blades that few knife craftsmen will repair. Buck will only offer you a new model in trade.
