Hi there, my name is Brent and I have a question to ask you. For my birthday about 8 yrs ago, my father -in - law gave me a Randall knife that his dad had ordered and had made for him many yrs ago. This knif has "never" been used, sharpened, altered, ect. It has been taken out of the sheeth for looking only and has the orriginal stone that came with it, as well never used. Could anyone tell me the value, history ect of this knife? I emailed the Randall company and they would not open my picture attachement. They said that today, a #23 goes for $275 and the sheeth is $40. I have attached a few pics as well as the info. Thank you in advance.

It has a deer antler handle.

The pictures will help better.

Thank you

Hello Brent,
Welcome! Quite the fine Randall you have aquired. The # 23 is one of my personal favorites. And Randall's selection and use of round stock stag is second to none. Your father-in-law must be a very nice fellow indeed. There are a multitude of variables involved with assigning the appropriate value to this piece. The main question is when, exactly, what year was the knife made?

Once you can answer that question the balance of information can be gleaned from the knife and sheath itself. Fair market value can be obtained several ways. My usual mode of operation is to do a search on eBay for similar items and check back often subsequent to auctions' end.

Thanks, I was really supprised when he gave it me. It's even more special since he passed away 3 yrs ago.

I got ahold of the Randall company and they told me I have to bring the knife into the store in FLORIDA before they can apraise it. Great, except I live in Canada. :grumpy:

Anybody have any idea who I could contact to find out? I know it was made for my father in laws dad when my father in law was young. I have been told by family that it has been around since between 1950 to 1960 ish. I know it's pretty vague. There has to be someone.

Brent,

Your knife appears to have a grey center spacer at the knife's hilt. The grey center spacers were used by Randall from 1977 to about 1985.

The value of your knife is about $450.00.

Best regards,

Rhett Stidham
