Hi to all the Emersonholics out there!

I have been collecting knives for quite a few years now, and one of my older models is an Emerson Spec War model CQC7 that was produced in the USA by Benchmade. I know that I got it probably over 15 years ago and was wondering what you could tell me about Benchmade being invoved with Emerson in the past and any more info on this knife. The blade steel is ATS-34 and I see that the CQC7 model is still produced, but not in conjunction with Benchmade.

Thanks for your help,

Johnny

iirc, benchmade bought the rights to produce that model from ernie.

there were several configurations:

970 in blk/pln, blk/serr, bead blast/pln, and bb/serr.

975 in the same configs, and the 9700 auto.

the 970 had the shorter blade like the current cqc7, the 975 is similar in size to the current super 7.

there was also the 970 st, which had a titanium blade/carbide edge and only came in bb/serr. it was designed as a demining tool, and only about 5000 were produced.

i have owned a few bm versions, i found them to be of equal quality to the current line.

Thanks for the info! Looks like I have the BB semi serrated 970 model. The action is extremely smooth on it and it fits in my hand really well.

Once again, thanks for taking the time to reply, and now maybe I will look into getting a new waved Emerson to add to this one.

I own a few of the BM's and just took in a 975 pse in the black ti coating. Whopper of a knife but a bit flatter handle than the Super 7 I have. It is an outstanding knife though. I do like the 970's a bit better than the 975 though. I have an identical 970 and with the 14's I own they get carried the most. keepem sharp

that is the one i had, and appears to be the most common model.

the 970 blk/pln and 975 blk/pln appear to be the least available on the secondary market, excepting the 970 st.

Awhile back a friend of mine had 2 Benchmade/Emersons that were neglected so I gave them a little maintenance. He was going to sell them to me until I was dumb enough to tell him they were kind of rare.

Some terrible quality pics
