I just purchased a large 31 with Bog Oak inlay. I was hoping to know more info about the wood as I couldn't find much on the CRK site... I was just wondering where they source it from and how old it is. I've head it can range in age from a few hundred years to a few thousand.... Any info is appreciated.

I like the bog oak as there is a deep history somewhere there. Thanks in advance.

I have one too. I think I would be neat if CRK gave more info on the wood thats in individual knives, but it probably isnt somthing thats going to happen. The only thing I could really find on Bog Oak was this. Maybe youve already seen it?

I reached out to CRK in I think 2015 when I bought my first Mnandi. They told me it was between 5k an 10k years old and from a marshland / bog in Germany. ( Bavaria ). Might have changed since then but a simple email to them will get you the answer in a couple days.

Here’s my post from my old account years ago.

Hello everyone,
I thought I would share some info on the Source/age of the Bog Oak inlays CRK used on my Mnandi. I emailed them to ask about it because I'm interested in the history of such things. I received a very nice return email from Alycia the very next day...

"I hope you are enjoying your Mnandi! Our Bog Oak comes from Northern Germany, from the area of Stade. It's a very "swampy" area next to the river "Elbe". The farmers in this area are occasionally lucky to find bog oak while working in the fields. The batch of Bog Oak recovered for us is between 3,000 and 6,000 years old! (This age is determined by the coloring of the Bog Oak.)"

Now to find a 10,000 year old bark to go with this 5,000yr old wood...

all that was said above is true, the stuff is old, my First CRK was a large Sebenza 21 with bog oak inlays of witch I still own, I don't use it much though as it mostly sits on my dresser as a show piece these days.
