I bought this knife around 12-14yrs ago and just recently fetched it from my sock drawer to admire again.

I haven't noticed a new buck knife with quite the same blade design or handle design.

The Blade is 3" long, the knife is about 8.25" Overall, and 4.75" closed. It is a beauty with nickel bolster and a fancy cut stainless scales.

Any information you all can provide would be appreciated. I am especially interested in knowing if it is/was(Yes, I sharpened and carried it.) a collectible and from what type of steel the blade was formed.

Thanks,
DaHaMac

Hello,
It sounds like your 531 was made in around 1990, based on the date code. They remained in the line until about 1995. They had a suggessted retail of about $70 and they are probably worth close to that today. Maybe someone else who has seen one sell lately, would care to post the price?
Hope this helps.

Thanks guys!

I found the date shortly after posting, d'oh! My memory is getting a little more rusty than I thought.

That is about what I paid for the knife in when it was bought, cool.

Was there a name for this knife?

We had a really clever name for that knife, the Bucklock-1. Ok, so it was not the most original name, but at least the knife is a winner!

Hope this helps,

Yes, IMHO the Bucklock-1 is a winner. Now I know what to call it, cool. I loved the thin profile, the handle was shaped just so that if felt great in my hand, and the blade design inspired confidence in the knife's ability to perform any task required. I immediately found another use for the holster(Today I use the holster to hold the extra mag for my CCW.) and let the Bucklock-1 ride in my hip-pocket.

I hope one day to see a reincarnation of this knife, maybe with an ATS-34 or BG-42 blade and some nice inlay work(Malachite *hint*). I would definitely pinch my pennies to buy that knife!

I love the scalloped cuts in the liners and from the first time I saw the knife it was that extra little detail that has always fascinated and endeared me to the Bucklock-1

Thanks for the info.

edit - fixin me po redneck spelling a little.

If your looking for something simular, than have a look at the 532. they have the modified lock, you can still find the 2000 special edition with BG-42 in a few different handle materials.

This is my first visit to this forum, and the reason I made it here is because of the 531x. I bought several a few years ago as gifts, and kept one for myself. Tonight I took this one out and examined it. Once I saw the 531x on the blade, I figured that if I did a search over here I could get some good info.

My tastes lean more towards tactical folders but I've kept this knife in a drawer for my son. When he gets old enough to take care of a quality folder, I've decided this will be his first. Just doesn't make sense to me that a kid gets acquainted to knives with a one handed opener.

FWIW, my 531x has silver (nickel?) bolsters, but has nice smooth wood scales and a nicely fileworked spine-a pretty attractive knife! geegee
