I am interested in getting a quality antique katana or wakizashi but I really want to do my research first. I am starting close to square one on my knowledge and I would like to know if there are any good primers out there online that could teach me what do look for so I don't get ripped off? Also what should I be budgeting for a katana or wakizashi that is at least 200 years old? Thanks for any help!

A good basic primer.

200 years old? Try anywhere from 5,000 to 60,000+ USD depending on the condition and original quality.
I might suggest trying Swordforum.com and searching for some of the online (and offline) trusted merchants.
A hint, most of them would not be on eBay.

Try this place.

There are a couple of companys thet represent registered sword makers in japan. There was one out of NY but I have lost the link.

The last time I checked and authentic new working katana's started at around ~$9,000 USD and went up from there. This was from the NY place a few years ago.
