I just bought a beautiful 103 done by Doris Yazzie and I know nothing about her. Can anyone give me any information about her and her work. From the pictures it looks really nice.

Thanks guys, I don't know if it was worth the money to anyone else but me but I really like it. I could have sworn that I saw something about her here on the forum, but a search came up empty.

Its worth it Dave! Thats a sweet 103! I knew you needed more ;)
All I know is she is a Navajo Indian craftsperson, and I believe resides in AZ? She customizes lots of different knives (not just Bucks) Very nice collectible knife Dave! Oh, isn't her name Doris? (one R)?

Anyway, sorry I cant be more help. I hope what I said here is right also. :D

That's a real nice piece Dave,I've never heard her name before.Was she the seller? I think you got a good deal for sure,lol good thing I didn't see it first!:)
That's the coolest 103 I've ever seen.:cool::thumbup:

Nice one Dave... I had my eye on that one... I just didn't no who made it... It really looks good to me... ITE ... :thumbup:

Dorris Yazzie is a Navajo Indian craftsperson who began making custom knives in 1989. That's all I can provide other than the fact that she has made many, many beautiful knives and is highly respected.

Telechronos:):):)

Doris Yazzie lives in Kayenta, Arizona and has been doing knife plays since 1989.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I've found some info on the web, but not a large amount so evey bit helps. I think it's a pretty handsome skinner and not too overdone. I've been wondering if she also did the little slippie below. I looks like it could have been done by the same artisan.

Dave, as has already been indicated, she is a Navajo craftsman, living in Arizona, who specializes in custom knives and jewelry for the tourist trade. As you may have noted, her work closely resembles that of David Yellowhorse and that is because she used to work for David before she struck out on her own. In fact, much of her work is stamped "DY" which is frequently mistaken to be that of David Yellowhorse, and more than one of her knives mas been sold as a "Yellowhorse."

Thank you. I also wondered about the way it was marked (DYnavajo). I wonder if the possible confusion was the intention? ;)
