Info on forged Damascus knife

looking for info on a very nice forged Damascus knife I picked up at an auction and hoping someone here can ID the maker. This has a stamp with an 8 and either an I or a 1 directly over the 8 this is forged into the blade. It may be just China made but the quality seems way better. Thanks for any help.

Chances are high that it's a Pakistani cheapo, but we'll need pictures.
 
I can't place the mark which I feel like I've seen before, but the knife does not look like a Pakistani cheapo to me.

That does not look like Damascus to me. That looks like an etch.
Look how it fades out towards the spine.

What seems fishy? Theres no links to buy, no going on about how awesome it is and why it's better than everything else on the market... Just an ID request and typical newbie pic posting difficulties. No need to get confrontational.

I don't recognize the makers mark unfortunately, but it does look like a genuine piece at least. Good luck.
 
Nothing fishy here. I am trying to find out who made it so I can ultimately determine whether it stays in my collection or not. Hopefully someone knows who made it.

Thanks TLE you hit it right on. (M)- I am not nor was I looking for valuation, that is something I can determine on open web after I discover the maker. I don't know why anyone would come here for valuation considering all the open sources available out there.
(M)- I believe it stated in rules that FB links to pics were ok so that is why I did it and it is my page as TLE noted but I don't see where it identifies my page, if it does I will figure out how to stop it from doing that in future posts. I am not advertising for anyone including myself.
If there were a drop paste option for pics I would have used it, I tried to no avail, perhaps someone here can enlighten me to an easier way that doesn't include using yet another open source for pics as I have no patience for yet one more thing to adopt for using pics.
