Hello as you can tell im new around here, I'm also new to the Khukuris. I recently bought my nephew a 12" AK that I am very impressed with and now I believe I have contracted some sort of illness, I must have more.

I was hoping someone could fill me in on this khukuri I looked through the kami data but couldn't find this one, thanks. Sorry for pic quality and lighting I was using my cell.

If that is a new kuk,and I'm not mistaken,it looks like it was made by Hari. He is a superb smith.I am fortunate enough to have an M-43 made by him.

I thought the star was Kumar, or maybe im thinking of the six pointed star...

Yeah, Kumar's is a six-point Star of David type. I dunno who this one is made by. Looks very well crafted though:) Congrats and welcome :D

I have been very impressed with the fit and finish on this most recent batch of khukuris, it looks like you got a winner! for best results in pictures Ive found that taking them outside will even make the cheapest cellphone pictures look much much better.

I concur on the the current fit and finish. The shop is really producing some good work. I can seriously see this becoming a new golden era of HI khuks. I've been scrutinizing the Spear Vala for any flaws. Short of the most minor of buff and brazing marks at the blade/guard junction (which is a REALLY hard place to clean up), it's fit and finish are top tier. It may be the most perfect HI product to cross my path. Given that it is a fairly new design, I'm really, really impressed.

IMHO, there has never been a better time to jump into the fray:)

I also have the 12" AK with similar markings. The fit and finish is superb compared to all my other HI's.

When showing it to a friend, I kind of put it through an impromptu torcher test, smacking old dead oak that had been waterlogged for several weeks out on the fire wood pile. I'd smack and smack until my arms got tired without any problems. (And with this light weight knife, chopping till you get tired takes quite awhile.)

So then I thought I’d show him some “light batoning”. I picked up a section of oak that was about 8” thick and full of knots. I mean why not right? And with another piece of firewood I started smacking…

and smacking…

and smacking…

About 6” deep I hit a large knot that I just couldn’t seem to punch through. So I had my friend grab a bigger piece and start smacking my little blade as hard as he could with two hands. So he started smacking the knife just about everywhere except where he was supposed to. Near the tip, near the handle, I guess whatever he could see was a valid target right?

When I stopped cringing and opened my eyes, the knife had not made any further progress other than to get fully and truly stuck. (As a side note, the knife was dull prior to this little “warranty voiding” test. I dulled it intentionally to use as a trainer for my little boy.)

So now with my khuk reenacting a scene from “Excalibur”, I proceeded to use a highly inappropriate method to get it unstuck. Let’s just say that Uncle Bill would not approve…

But hey, you start bragging about your “indestructible” knife, you tend to go a little overboard.

Needless to say, back to the office with the khuk, a little oil, a scotch brite pad (I put this finish on all my user’s), and the khuk is back to new. Unharmed and still the prettiest in my collection.

I’d say you got your nephew a damn good knife.

Thanks for the info and the welcomes. I also got my older nephew a Gerber silver trident that cost quite a bit more than the AK but after looking over both of them I feel the AK is the much better knife and will most likely see much more abuse and probably last a lot longer.
