Info on Knife needed

Not sure exactly what your question is about the knife. It is exactly what it says it is. A 100th year commemorative issue for the Statue of Liberty. It was given it's own unique model number but it's basically a 525 with acrylic overlays. There were 3 different Statue of Liberty knives that I know of. They made 15,000 like yours with the gold etch on the blade and 15,000 without the gold etch. There was a model 825 which was pewter and there was also one based on the 500 series knife. The 505, 525, and the 825/826 limited editions (if you want to call 30,000 limited) all have the same 1-7/8" blade. I think there are some more recent "creations" made from leftover blades. HTH.

(PS- you outbid me.. if you're unhappy with it.... ;) )

Hi Mitch,

The 826 is just a different variation of the 526, same size, same blade. As you can clearly see from the auction you linked this knife was listed as a 826 and has stated just what it is.

any way, in years around 1985, 1986, 1987 there were multiple Buck knives made to commemorate the statue of liberty. The statue was under going renovation and these knives were sold to help with the effort of drawing attention to the Lady in need or restoration. In 1986 there were 3 different models like yours made. 25000 knives were made with a pewter handle with a copper coin insert. 15000 knives were made with a gold lady liberty & coin under a plastic laminate. 15000 knives were made with a gold lady liberty & coin under a plastic laminate, with gold etch on the blade. current value of these knives is $40-$50, so if the closed auction you linked is your knife you did well.

That is a very nice little knife IMHO

I found one of the pewter ones in a pawn shop in Gainesville that they wanted 150.00 for:eek: (as far as I know, they still have it) and have been looking for one for a while. I didn't know there were more than one.

$150 is about $100 over priced! These are on the auctions sites all the time....keep looking.

Here is the Lady Liberty knife I like, 1987 Duke 500, the Oak handles are made from wood taken from the lady during the renovation work, as was the insert.

Info added: The SO/LE list shows this above Duke 500 to be a 1987 issue knife. However, the above Duke 500 is in the 1986 Buck catalog, like the 1986 etched on the blade?

I'm not going to look it up tonight but I think the wood of the handles came from the doors at Ellis Island. The copper coin was made from actual renovation salvage on the statue.

Here are the three small Liberty knives. These are examples for the three models. The knife with the pewter handle was offered in some different versions.
