Just got my CRKT Point Guard, and I'm very impressed. I normally don't like liner locks (it's the only one I currently have), and I didn't much care for the CRKT Kasper Folding Fighter.

Well, I like it enough that I'm interested in a real Point Guard. But I can't find any information about them on BF (tried the search). What are the scales made of? Blade? Price? And so on...

Cool, thanks. Their site leaves something to be desired--good pictures, for instance--but that's a good start. Are the prices listed generally what one can expect to pay?

I have a Crawford Point Guard and let me tell you...if you like the CRKT version you will really like the Crawford. They run around $400 for a plain titanium handled bead blasted ATS-34 or 154 CM blade. This is what I have and it is nice. I have seen these at knife shows for $375. Pat and Wes also offer an Aluminum handled version and I got to handle one at a recent show. These are also very nice and run about $100 less than the titanium version and come in a variety of colors. Go for it! ...Ed.

This knife is one of my favourites and a great design for general utility. Anyway, the PG comes in a few "basic" configurations: the Aluminium handled version, the titanium-handled version and the bolstered versions with micarta scales. 'Course theres also the "full dress" versions with damascus, mammoth ivory, filework, etc.

I think you find that most dealers sell at the makers price so theres no BS. If you wait you may be able to get a pre-owned Point Guard for sale but they're pretty rare - I've been looking out for a few months now, and I havent seen one. If I lived in the US, I'd probably buy one direct from Pat - he usually has some on hand. I've also seen some Aluminium handled ones for sale at BladeArt: http://www.bladeart.com/artists/pat_crawford/pat_crawford.htm

I've seen the aluminum-scaled versions at the recent ECCK Show in NYC and they look and feel great. I also have the CRKT version and am looking to pick up the "real deal".
