Do sporrans always come with chain belts ? That is all I see in modern pictures .
I would wager when metal was more rare and costly they used all leather belts .

Kronckew the " Cullain " site is just awesome . I especially liked the first Sporran of seal fur with crossed chains suspending the tassels .

The first long , needle thin dirk wave me the gillies . L:O:L

It is such a complex site that my old pentium 2 takes forever loading it and scolling was slow and sporadic . The site mentioned that a fork would sometimes come with the knife ? That is of interest to me . I enjoy being around a blaze and slicing off a piece of roasting meat . I also somewhat enjoy a genteel nature which appreciates tined cutlery as well . How common were forks and about when did they come to be used ? I cannot envision one being loosely carried in a Sporran .

Forks became so common in Scotland that they would often be used instead of knives . They even had a nickname for them . Scottish highwaymen would sometimes waylay travelers leapng into the roadway brandishing their " Triple Tined Terrors " .
I think that is where the expression " Fork over your money " came from . L:O:L

I worked for a Scottish guy who wore a kilt every day. His belts and sporrans were leather. Only the dress sporran had chain.

Me and the wife.

Nice picture Andrew . Thanks for the info . This sporran will definitely not be dressy and will mostly be used as a possibles bag . What I like about them is the infinite variety and the different adornments such as Harp badges and the like .
