I am interested on stripping down my GW. Is there a guide that one of you have made that I could take a look at? I have scoured the web is search for some information, but nothing comes up. Aside from the actual stripping process, what concerns me is the removing of the handles and how to put then securely back on.

Any info or some direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

I have applied very powerful stripping agents with micarta handles on and had no damage or discoloration. I know some have done this with G10 as well and were happy with the results but not sure if they saw any discoloration. I wouldn't worry about removing the handles in either case

Sorry, the limit of my experience with stripping involves stuffing dollar bills into G-strings.

I have used a spray on paint stipper and the coating came off with a breeze. The Micarta is unaffected by basic hardware store strippers.

Do the stripping outside with good air ventilation and wear gloves when scraping it off the blade.

i have found chemical strippers tend to lighten g10 slightly.

as mentioned, no effect on micarta at all.

The coating comes off just fine without removing the handles, as has been said, but then I find that doing a good satinizing job on the blade is harder with the handles on. In some ways its easier, in that you can hold the knife by the handle while working on the blade. But it's harder to get an even consistent finish from the base of the blade to the tip, because it's harder to work on the area right next the the handle grips. For one, working on that part without sanding or grinding the scales is hard, and two, it's hard to move back and froth right next to the scales, so hard to satinize that area, and hard to blend it evenly with the rest of the blade.

I would love some tips from those of you who have satinized your blades while leaving he handles on, on how to get that area at the base of the blade, next to the handles, even with the rest of the blade.

Thank you all for the replys. I will post pictures of the process. If I do not get too hammerd this weekend, wait that's not an excuse!!

Sunday it is then!
