Hi-

I don't post here much, because I didn't have any Busse knives until today, when I received this. I know it's a Steelheart, and that it's A2 steel, and from about 1997. Is there anything else I should know? Thanks in advance for any information.

By the way, I LOVE it. It feels great in the hand, seems light for its thickness and size, and is WIDE like I think a blade should be. I'm beginning to see why Busse knives are so popular...... :)

Boy, that's a beauty.
My only advise on her is to hold on to the end with the screws in it and swing the long black part in it to trees, 2X4s, post, and any thing else you want to mold or destroy.

That's a great looking example of an older SH, hard to find in that condition.
It is very collectable in it's present form.
That knife is a VERY good find.
My guess is that it is 5/16th instead of the current 1/4" INFI stuff
It can become a user or a safe dweller at this point, that's your call.
If it were mine, it would go in to the collection and I would get one with the crinkle coat (or one that has already been used)to beat the snot out of.
Good luck, your at a point of "Tough Love" on this one.

First, as 1WB's said, is it 5/16"?

Either way, I think this is a rather rare configuration. I have not seen many A2 SH2's without the Bird's Beak. This came after the Bird's Beak, but before INFI. Nice find :) .

Here's a pic of a Bird's Beak SH2 (A2):

Here's a pic of a Regular SH2 (INFI)(I'm nearly sure of this, perhaps Gator, who I believe is its owner, can help):

Your knife was probably produced between these. The INFI smooth-handled SH2 pic was probably made right after A2 was discontinued by Busse; I also have numerous pics of SH2's with the grooved handle slabs, made a little later.

Since that is already nicely used :D , I would continue to use it, and later perhaps send it in to Busse to be refurbed.

BTW, welcome to the Busse forum. I hope you stick around :D !

WOW!! That is a gorgeous SH, 1whobuys is right about it being hard to find one looking that good. Your date sounds about right due to the handle slabs and fasteners. 1whobuys and papathud together can probably narrow it down and give the best history. If it were a Mistress I could probably be of more help with the History, but my SH knowledge is a little less advanved than others here.

Congrat's on a great Busse! That was the perfect piece to be your first.

Recluse, you didn't have to own a Busse to post and be welcome here, stick around, ask questions, or jump right in with us :)

p.s. - Welcome to the Busse Forum! :D

Recluse,
Welcome to the Busse Forum, glad you stopped by.:)

Nice find. These guys have given you some great info on a beautiful knife. What a great first Busse :D

Stick around, we'd love to have a little more info on this guy ;):D

Thanks for the VERY warm welcome. These things are clearly addictive, so I'll be sticking around........ :D

I really appreciate all the information, and I am amazed at how quickly I received it. This piece is 5/16" thick. I wouldn't believe it based on how well balanced it feels. :)

And I DEFINITELY need more Busse knives...........

BTW, check page 4 of the Picture Archive at the top of the this forum. ;)

I hope you don't mind.

Wow, that's only the second 5/16" SH I've seen. I believe contender has the other one. Congrats! And you are totally right...these things are very addictive.

Could we have a spine shot? :D

Thanks Andrew. :) Here's the spine shot:

Beautiful:D

I had a 5/16" BA and was knocked out by how it seemed to dwarf the other 1/4" models, but I still can't imagine what the same thickness would feel like on a Steel Heart.

...and so, my mission in life remains to find the BB and a 5/16" Steel Heart:D

Thanks for the inspiration Recluse:cool:

Recluse, welcome to the forum.

You will find a wealth of knowledge here.

The inmates are normally well behaved, but sometimes an INFI-induced mania takes over.... ;)

Hope you get to expand your collection.

Be sure to check out the picture archive. Some sweet toys there, a lot to drool over....

Again, welcome.

Mike
