I am looking to find info on pictured kukri. Please view at http://members.aol.com/ddrahn/kukribw.jpg It is 12 1/2 in length, hardwood handle, blade marked with "GORKHA ARMY" and the serial number 2023. Curious as to whether this is standard military issue or tourist type item. Also curious about the symbol on butt of handle (I realize it is a little beat up.

Hi Darrell,
I have the exact same knife only the "serial number" is 3033.
These are sold as "Official Gorkha Army" issue to tourists and they may actually be made in Dharan where the actual contract is fulfilled for the army.
The crossed khukuris with the Royal Nepalese Crown on the pommel are supposed to represent the military.
The overall quality of knife, scabbard and sheath is low and would never be accepted for service.
Hope this info answers your qusetions.

Thanks for info, John.

Well, Darrell, now you have it. Maybe not exactly what you wanted to hear but you got the info at least. With John's resource contacts at the Gurkha Museum he seldom misses.
