I was thinking about buying a Wicked Edge. I'm not the best knife sharpener. Is the Wicked Edge easy to use?

If you want an easy to use knife (or other sharp things) sharpener look no further than the the spyderco sharpmaker

I have a sharpmaker. I just have a hard time hitting the edge on certain knives. I think I need more grit options and angle options.

I'm in the same situation as B Hess. I'd also love some information about this, but I'd imagine a quick look in the sharpening and knife care section would be the best bet.

The Wicked Edge is a wonderful system. So is the Sharpmaker. So is the EdgePro.

But you still have to know how to sharpen a knife or you'll have to be lucky to get a good edge. On the other hand, if you take the time to learn what you're doing, any system will do a good job.

I have used both the EP and the WE. Both are great systems and both will give you amazing results.

You will be highly disappointed if you think you will buy either and have fantastic edges the very first time. Both have a definite learning curve, so patience is a must.

ETA: I have videos on both systems on my Youtube channel. Link in sig.

CTS nails it. Using the WE is easier than freehand sharpening, but still requires you to learn how to use it properly.

All you have to do is grind til the bevels meet and you raise a burr on one side then the other. Then you move up the grits. It's time consuming. That's what I wasn't expecting. It takes a long time to get most knives right. For a decent sized knife it takes over an hour. At least. This is because most knives come obtuse and you want to go slowly and not use too much pressure. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, though.
