I bought an old Colllins Legitimus USN machete with sheath at a pawn shop today for $15---the seller had just been in. I can't bring it home though until the pawn shop wait period of about ten days...to assure it wasn't stolen. The only thing I could find stamped on the tang just above the (wood) handle, 3 lines of text stacked as shown, is:
It needs work but the gem is in there. I know these are good machetes but that's about all.
I want to research it in detail and try to find out about when it was made or on the market new, but not finding a lot of pages on a "USN" model. I'm finding all kinds of Collins blades with model numbers but little on just USN. Is there a model number I need to give it that I may not be aware of? A search here provided very little on a USN model also.
Anyone know about this model or of any good links or info pages on it to get me started? Sure would appreciate some info....
Collins Legitimus
USN
a number--could be a serial number....I think it was about five digits.
Wood handle, estimate 22 or 24" blade. Machete profile, no bolo at all.
