It seems that you guys are the experts on khukuris around here (not to insult the GH forum guys, but I didn't want to post this in both forums), and it would be great if you could give me any info you know on this knukuri.

My father brought it back from North-East India, quite near the Nepali border. Apparently it was very hard to find, as true khukuris are quite rare there. But, this one was found, and in a small village. It is about 16" long, and the blade is about 5/16" thick at thickest. The spine isn't flat, but is shaped like a simple roof, the two sides coming together. The stick tang (probably) comes through the wooden handle and is fixed (welded) to the steel pommel. The bolster was once brass-coated, but is really steel I think. It was quite extensively rusted when I got it (though not thick rust), and some sanding removed most of the rust, but the blade is quite badly pitted (but not deep pits, only cosmetic). The pitting looks horrible in the pics, but it really isn't that bad.

Here Are the Pictures of the Khukuri

It seems to be sturdy, and is really beautifully designed. It will go in my small "ethnic blades" collection.

Any info and/or comments will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Andrew! Welcome to the cantina! Your khuk reminds me of a Villager model sometimes offered on this site. To me it looks like a little inbetween a WWII model and a British service model. More help will be here soon! It always is!!!!:D

Andrew I couldn't get the pix to enlarge and I'm far from being an expert and one of the true experts will be along to help I'm sure but...

From what I could tell from the small pix to me it looks like an older style of blade since it's a full curving khukuri instead of the more modern angled models.
But take what I say with a grain of salt because from a new undestanding some of the older ones also were of the angled style.
And from the shape of the cho I would also guess that it's an Indian khukuri, but we'll see what the true experts say.
At least you got a response. :D

John Powell may know for sure but to me this looks like an old faithful villager that's been around the block a couple of times.
