Good morning all,

I am hoping y'all here can help me out. As you can see, this is my first post here. I am looking for some information on a knife that was recently given to me by my father. It is a Buck Custom Shop 927 I believe. I have done some internet searches and looked around this forum a bit but really haven't learned much specifically. I was told it has mastodon scales, was bought in the early 80s, and he has never used it.

He has started passing down a few blades from his collection, and while I will never sell them and look forward to passing them down to my children, I would like to know more about them. So starting with this one:

Anyone know about when it was made? Materials? Rarity? Value? Were they popular? What was the consensus on them?

It's probably my favorite one he has passed me. Fits the hand extremely well, polished to a blinding degree, and immaculate in every way.

Thank you all in advance!

I just saw where asking value was frowned upon, so just delete that from your response at this time. I still do want to know more about this blade.

Anything? I asked my dad about it and he said that since it came from the custom shop there may not be many more exactly like it.

Go to the Buck forum and you might get your answers. You can also contact Buck yourself. Being a holiday there probably won't be too many people on the forum from the states here.
That is a very fine looking knife you have there and I hope you find out all you can and come back and share.

Thank you for your response. I'll do that. Happy thanksgiving!

BOOGER - You are correct that your knife is a 927 Slimline Skinner made in the early Buck custom shop most likely during the late 80's early 90's. The handle material is mastodon ivory.
The curved line in the blade is what is called a radius hollow grind. I can't quite make out the serial number on the blade which helps to date it a bit. You can get ahold of Buck Knives and with the serial
number they can sometimes give you more information about the knife. Look around all the edges of the blade and guard and see if there is a set of initials stamped into the blade. This would tell us
who was the craftsman of the knife. Very nice knife. Equally as nice is that you still have the original custom sheath that goes with the knife and it looks to be in great shape.

Thank you!

I looked closer and there appears to be a JL on the lower part of the blade.

I believe this is the serial number, 0210.

It still has the original box and paperwork as well. Beautiful blade.

JL stands for Jeff Legerton Whom still works for Buck I believe. The 0210 is the serial number and is a bit later so it was most likely made in the early 90's. I would check with Buck and they could date it closer and
possibly give you a little more info.

Here is a 927 with stag handles and square hollow grind blade for comparison on the blade grinds.

Here is another 927 with stag handles but this one has a brass guard and handle pins while the others posted above are nickel silver.

Booger, welcome. You should thank ged as he's giving you some accurate, detailed information. The 4 digit number stamps coming out of the Custom Shop are regular custom knives. Your accompanying sheath has a snap w/ Buck 3 times on it. Which Buck started using in 1993. So, your knife has to be at or after this date. Some nice photos of handsome knives. DM

Just to add, Buck's Custom Shop closed it's doors in 1993. So, yours was one of the last ones touched by those gifted craftsman. DM

I wonder what steel they used for the blade? That is a beautiful knife (so are Ged's).

That should be on Booger's paperwork. I suspect it is 440C as there were problems with 425M. DM

I'll see if it's in the box when we get home. On a duck hunting trip with pop at the moment.
