Did Spyderco produce a Cricket model with the yin-yang symbol or was it an after market? If yes they did, what were the handle materials?

I belive it was after market(Santa Fe stone works)in MOP and black onix

As I recall, early on, Spyderco had Sante-Fe Stoneworks make the Ying-Yang Cricket and it was sold through Spyderco, Materials were jet(black) and mother of pearl (white). After Spyderco stopped selling all after market conversions, the vendors handled sales themselves. I understand you can still get the cricket from Sante-Fe.
The early style varies slightly from the current models.

So the scale material is steel with applied stone? Is the Yin-Yang scale just on one side with the other side steel? What is the other side like?

The newest ones would be stone on steel and only on one side. The early ones were done on the Alum Crickets.

I was up at Santa Fe Stoneworks a couple of weeks ago and they had several Ying-Yang crickets up there. They even had one that was green/white. Good looking knives!

Hey Easy,

Was that cute chick Olivia up there? Awsome shop BTW all Spyder fans ought to make an annual sojourn up there to see what they can do with Spydercos. I swear I never thought I'd ever see an attractive looking Civilian. They've got one up there that wouldn't be out of place at a black tie event. Lots of awsome stuff there. Plus I though the counter girl was a major looker. :D

Yep! :D

Clay has the straight skinny for ordering but you can go to www.hamonoichiba.com and click on the English: Spyderco text and search for yourself. Naohiko keeps his site pretty well updated and you may just find a few other eye catchin' Spydies. Click on the Order Method text and it will take you through the order process. Naohiko is a good guy and he ships his orders fast.

As for the the Santa Fe Stoneworks Crickets, the work was done on one side. They used jet and mother of pearl for the scale. The only Spydie to be rescaled on both sides by SFSW and sold by Spyderco was the David Yellowhorse Hummingbird. David has pictures and info archived at his web site.

Another maker who rescales Crickets on both sides and does fine file work on the blade spines also is Frank Recupero. Bladeart.com probably has a few of his really awesome Crickets at their site but they are pricey. I have a G10 Navigator Frank reworked and even though she doesn't have the flashy scales, she fits in well with the other Santa Fe Stoneworks Spydercos I have.

Stay safe! Stay sharp!

Yep - Hanomoichiba still has the Yin-Yang Crickets in PE. They're called Special Crickets and are the Almite babies with GIN1 steel.

I just got this reply tonight from Mr. Naohiko Hasegawa concerning the "Special Cricket Straight" on his website.

Thank you for interested in our site.
Unfortunately, it was sold out. The maker dose not make any more.
Thanks,
Naohiko Hasegawa

Its a shame. I wanted one of those Yin/yang Crickets
