I would like some info on knife guns. The old pocket knives that had a single shot gun built into them, usually 22 short. Any info I can get, including dealers, history, drawings, schematics, or price lists. Do any of you forumites own one? How hard are they to find nowadays? Thanks and take care!! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Woah, looks like I stumped you forumites with this one!!!

Mike, you might want to try asking in Bernard Levine's forum. If anyone knows the answers, I bet it's him.

Well I don't know if this counts, but Yvon Vachon has a miniture version of a knife/pistol on his website. Awfully nice looking if you've got a spare $7,000 lying around!

Had one in my hands last year. A very nice large folder with a built in 22 Cal pistol. The pistol was positioned as just another blade. Can't remember who made it but it was english. Probably dated to the later half of the 19th century.

Its an interesting area.

Great idea & pretty handy- But I bet illegal as hell- in most places they'd put you under Gilligans Island if they caught you w/ one. Probably a collectors piece only... bummer...

A few years ago I had two barreled, side by side pistol with a dagger blade in the center. It was manufactured by Rossi in Brazil in the late 40's as a counterfeit of an early French model, it had no markings whatsoever and was a .41 caliber pinfire, smoothbore. Needless to say ammunition was impossible to find. I traded it off at a gunshow in New Orleans in the 80's.

I've seen a drawing of a folder with the built-in 22 short pistol. It was on a BATF poster that hung in my father's gun shop - right between the machinegun and the cane gun. They are class 3 firearms. You can own them in most states with a $5 transfer fee an an AOW (any other weapon). Unlicensed ones can get you 10 years. Do a search in the auto forum. There was a thread on a fixed blade that was also a pistol several months ago. A guy in California was planning to build them.

There were many pistols and revolvers made
in the 19th century with an additional knife
blade. Some had a fixed blade while others
had either a slide out or folding blade. One
I think of most often was a .22 revolver
that had a grip that folded and served double
duty as brass knuckles. It also had a slide
out spike blade. I think it was a French or
Belgian piece, but not sure.
