We were having lots of rain in Ohio and I ended up thinking to hang two extra knife blades out my window to compare corrosion resistance. They were hung out there for about a week and checked once every few days. Here's how they currently look.

Top knife is from a Byrd Cara Cara in 8Cr13MoV and the bottom a Buck 110 in 420C I believe (The blade is from around 99 I believe so if someone could specify what steel that era 110 used it would be appreciated).

The pictures are a little blurry (Can take higher res ones later) but you can see that the Buck's edge bevel was the only thing that really rusted while the Byrd's entire blade was coated in spots of it. There were also a few spots of rust in the Buck's nail nick.

Didn't they use a steel they called 425M at the time? Not a bad steel, by the way, I've still got some old Bucks made in the 1990's, and they're pretty good, even by today's standards.

So Vivi, is that the blade from the Buck 110 that you broke?
I still ain't askin' how. Just, "is that the blade"?

I think you are saying that the Buck rusted less than the Byrd. Can you confirm that?

Unless you bought old stock, it is 420HC. Buck changed to 420HC from 425M in about 1994.
