For folks who are enjoying your Bud Nealy MCS equipped knives, what is your favorite carry option of the various ones it offers.

I have 2, I have an old Aikuchi made of blued O-1, and the other is a Stinger.

Either I carry in the inside jacket pocket, or mostly tucked in my back pocket attached to my belt and loop with a static cord,(not one of his options).

As far as liking his stuff I bought my first custom knife off of him at the first big East Coast Knife Show, he had just started making knives full time the previous year, I carry that first knife as a SD/EDC, it's always with me.

Bud is a super guy, him and his wife Toni live only 1/2 hour from me, been invited to his shop many times, not only does he make a sweet knife, he's also good people.

You can't go wrong buying a knife off of him.

Is the Stinger still being made? I don't think I saw it on his site.

I bought one of Bud's blades at the NY show in november. I love the clip you use to carry it suspended from the inside breast pocket of a jacket. My pesh Kabz has been in my leather jacket since I got home from NY. I never leave home without it. When it warms up I think I will carry it horizontal in the middle of the back. or maybe vertical with the inside the pants loop over my right hip.

have a pesh kabz 5" M2 and a amoeba, both with the MASS system, the MCS just didnt work for me, love the MASS though, it rocks!! carry strongside IWB.

The Stinger was 1 of 3 in a limited run, it has desert ironwood scales, with mosaic pins, the only other place I saw one was on a Knife Puveyors site, and I don't really remember who. I'll have to look it up when I get home from work.

What positioning does Mass offer over MCS that accomodates your needs?

No experience with MASS, but I carried my MCS Aikuchi inside jacket pocket. I carried IWB SOB during the warmer days, but was a bit worried about sweat, and rust on the ATS-34 blade.

One of the few knives I've gotten rid of that I really regret losing.

I'll find another someday...

the MASS has dual lock all around the sheath and a clip which can be placed virtually anywhere at any angle on the sheath, cant for the life of me think of anything a MCS will do a MASS wont do better, and if ya need to clip it to running shorts/etc it will work were the MCS wont, really a good system, hadnt heard of it when i first got my pesh kebz, didnt like the MCS and talked to bud about it, was really dissapointed,IIRC the only way to IWB it was with the little cheap funky strap, didnt work well for me, a $200+ knife i thought it was C H E A P, bud said to send him the knife and he made me a MASS sheath for it, one of the first if not the first MASS for a PK IIRC, made a big diff to me, went from something i could use occasionally to something suitable for EDC use imho, i often carry a fixed when in shorts/etc while running/biking/etc. the little strap for IWB was just no good, not secure enough, and no belt to hook to anyway, i needed something w/a clip for my needs but if your mode works well with it, thats great, but again imho the MASS is lots more versatile and secure, even inside the inside pocket of a suit, rather than the plastic sleeve holding the sheath in, a steel clip clips it in place, much more secure. i like the MASS a lot, as ya can tell lol. i think he'll make ya one for $30 or so.

Very good points, Greg. Your lifestyle and carry habits pionted you to the right option. I find the carry straps OK for larger blades, but not for small, especially when the preference is a canted IWB. With movement, sometimes the sheath winds up twisting horizontal and almost out the pants.

Despite security, how is the weight and heft of the MASS compared to MCS when used upside down in breast pocket? Does it make the pocket itself sag?

BOINK, Bud makes 2 tabs for the MCS a wide one which distributes the weight over a larger area in the pocket, with the Stinger you don't see any print.

the weight diff is minimal, the clip MIGHT weigh a little bit more, but not much, certainly wont sag/etc, if it did it would with the MCS also, as compared to the weight of the knife/sheath it just isnt enough to make a diff. and much more secure imho.

Thanks, guys.

By looking at thte photos of knives, it appears like the MASS equipped knives have thicker scales, as though if meant more for work use, than the MCS knives, which appear more for flatness, lighter weight and concealment. I wonder if that's the way it really is.

i dont think so, my amoeba comes std w/the MASS and its the most concealable one he makes imho, prob 6 of 1 1/2 dozen another. my amoeba is not thicker than my pesh kebz anyway.
