This knife was given to me by one of my grandfathers friends that lives in Pennsylvania. He said that he knew I collected knives and would take care of it. He said that it had been sitting in a cabinet for years, he thought it was either his dad or his grandfathers knife. He was born sometime around the 1930's or 40's so his dad would have been born around the late 1800 or earliy 1900 and his grandfather would have definitly been born in the 1800's. So from that story it sound posible that this knife could be form about 1900. I dont know much about barlow knives exept that the only ones I have seen say made in China. This one says USA and feels better made. If anyone know anything about this knife I would love to know about it.
Thanks, Nathan

I'm by no means an expert on Barlow knives Nathan but the older ones that I've seen have a long pull rather than a nail nick.

posting this in the traditional forum will get you much more information.

Rather than repost. Use the black triangle in the lower left corner of your original post to report it and ask for a request to move it to Bernard levines knife collection and identification forum. You will most likely get a history on it there,

Prov. cut. co. went out of business in the 1990's. Your Barlow is not likely older than the 1970's by its construction and materials.

Having a mod move it to BL's subforum will get you some good info.

I Would, however also post do another post in the Traditional knife forum. Everyone over there will enjoy it too!

I posted a Razor and strop inherited by my Father in B L's forum, and got some great info.

I am absolutely not any kind of expert, but one tidbit I picked up from Bernard Levine (used to help date a leather strop from my Grandpa).

MADE IN U.S.A was first used circa 1917.

BRL...

To my eye, that Barlow looks newer than this as well. (aside from the made in USA tang stamp). The pins look perfectly domed, and shiny which also makes me think the knife is a bit newer (1970's? Some a quick google search from the "50's and later" looked older than this. The pins looked different (less domed, and perfectly round).

Manufacturer (after quick google search) is Providence Cutlery company, out of Providence Road Island

This Barlow was purchased at Wally World in 1988 or 1989.

This Imperial/Provident Barlow was more than likely made in either the 1950's or 1960's from the construction & stamp. Imperial made about a million of this type/line of this lower end pocket knife. Other than personal or family value to you (probably priceless) - but about $25-$40
