Hi everybody,

I'm new to the forums. I was an active member of the old CS forums (I sure do miss those) back in the day. I have what I consider a large CS collection but I am looking to downsize it a bit. Blade Forums is apparently the best place to do this. I'm thinking about getting the gold membership in order to do that. I am wondering, however, what the consensus is about a reasonable price for items. The items I am thinking about selling are in basically new condition, without boxes. Some have been polished but that's about it. I was thinking that maybe reasonable would be look at what the item (or equivalent, in the case of discontinued items) costs new (list price) and then listing it for half...what do you think?

The other hurdle I have isn't really CS related but I am confused about listing the items with shipping on blade forums. The rule is to list the item's "total" price, which I guess includes shipping but how do I even know this? I'm in Canada. What it takes to ship to Australia isn't what it takes to Ship to within Canada, or to the US or to Europe, or wherever. It seems like could list an item and lose money if the shipping costs too much. On the other hand, if I list shipping too high, in case it has to go somewhere really far, nobody is going to buy it. I'm sure there is a good reason for the rule but it strikes me, without knowing better, that I should be able to list what the item costs and then determine shipping based on where it's going...what am I not understanding?

Thank you!

Welcome to BF! Regarding shipping, since you are in Canada, I would state in your sales post that your price includes shipping within Canada, and that the buyer would pay the difference to countries outside of Canada.

We can’t discuss pricing with you until you’re a gold member. Make sure you read the rules of the forms before proceeding.

Have you checked with your Post Office? Real easy to get flat rate shipping costs from US to Canada. Try online too for some services.

If you get the gold membership you can put up pics and offer them for sale on BF/ here in the for-sale forum. There are quite a few CS collectors around here also. They probably wouldn't last long around here. Oh! Welcome to BladeForums and good luck with sales. 👍

jlauffer! I remember you from the CS forums! (I was dannycanuck) Nice to interact with you again.

I understand about the gold membership stuff. It sounds like the way to go will be to get a price in Canadian, with shipping (basing it on the probably package dimensions and weight) within Canada but allow purchases outside Canada with adjustments to price and currency. I'm super busy today but I think tomorrow I will come back and get that gold membership and then post here about what I've got to get an idea on prices before shipping. Once that's done, I'll start selling! It's going to be a bit of work, but I think worth while considering how much I've got to sell.

Thanks everybody, I'm looking forward to it.

Alright! I'm a Gold Member! Here is a link to a google item with stuff I'm considering selling: Cold Steel Items

Some on there (like the KUDU) isn't worth selling (it's cheap and has seen a fair bit of use), I think. But 115Italian implied that I could get help with pricing once I was a gold member. Here is what I'd like to sell (I hope there is stuff in here worth it):

Machetes (all have been sharpened by me to be paper cutting sharp):
Sax (long)
Panga (lanyard added)
Cutlass

Neck Knives:
Scimitar
Beaver Tail Mini Tac

Fixed Blade:
Bushman (Old version with leather sheath)
Warhead (version with scales)
Canadian belt Knife (has been polished and lanyard added)
Survival Edge (original version - it doesn't have anything in the handle)
Boar Hunter
True Flight Thrower
Drop forged boot knife

Folders:
Black Rock Hunter
Counter Point XL
4 inch Ti-Lite
Older style Voyager
Scimitar
Pocket Bushman (has been used for some light duty cutting - box tape etc.)
Mackinac Hunter with thumb stud and leather case

Tomahawks:
Norse Hawk (with sheath)
Pipe Hawk (with sheath)

I also have a Brooklyn smasher I'd be willing to sell.

Everything has just been sitting around and opened/closed a bunch, and not had anything additional done to it, unless indicated.

Any help at all with this would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea what any of this is worth, if anything. If more pictures would help, I certainly can take those and add them to the album.

Thank you so much. I look forward to being a member of this community!

Go to "the bay" hint hint, in the search bar put in the name of the item such as "cold steel scimitar". Then along the left side of the screen, scroll down to "completed items". If something has sold in the last 3 months, you will see the item there.

Of course condition is important. And if the box is included.

Key value from your list:

Neck Knives:
Scimitar

Fixed Blade:
Bushman (Old version with leather sheath)
Warhead (version with scales)
Boar Hunter

Folders:
Black Rock Hunter
Counter Point XL. - depends on version
4 inch Ti-Lite. - depends on version
Older style Voyager
Scimitar
Mackinac Hunter with thumb stud and leather case

Thanks! I don't have boxed for anything, unfortunately.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the bay"...in Canada that's a department store (the full name of course is Hudson's Bay Company!). I'm certain that's not what you mean though.

Famous, or infamous, auction site. Can use their advanced search to research what things have recently sold for.

I see. I guess a certain letter-bay is a swear word on these forums. I will check those out. I think figuring out the version of certain knives might be tricky. I'll do my best! In the coming days I will do plenty of searching, measuring, and weighing and then get set up in the exchange.

I have a couple more questions...

Because I am in Canada, do I have to (or should I) be posting in the Canada specific forum?

I think I recall in the rules that I can only have one posting at a time. Is that one per forum (in other words, can I have one in folders, one in fixed, etc.) or one overall?

Thanks for all the help, everybody!

Exchange rule #9 under Selling:

Consolidate your 'like" items into a single thread. If you have multiple knives to sell, post them in a single thread. Or you can do different threads on different days. You are only allowed 1 sales thread, per day, per forum. If you list an item and it sells, don't start another thread in the same section until the next day. If a moderator consolidates your threads, edit the title and make any changes you need to. DO NOT START AN ALL NEW THREAD! Let's keep it fair for everyone.

Another Canuck here also.Try posting your items in the Canadian Exchange area.Link is below.

Payments are either PP or EMT

Thanks for the help!

So it looks like I'm better off selling in the Canadian forum? Won't that limit the list of potential buyers?

I think I have figured out a price for everything except the boar hunter, the bushman with leather sheath, and the sax and panga machetes...any ideas?
