Last night my dad and I were talking about the Buck knives in his collection and he mentioned a rubber-handled, 7" bladed knife that he bought from Bass Pro Shops in the mid eighties. I pulled up the 1986 catalog from when the Kraton series was first released.

He said, "That's the one I have (pointing to the 619 Woodsmate), but mine has a green handle and camo sheath."

We went through every catalog until the line was discontinued, but there was no mention of the olive drab handled Woodsmate. I asked him to take a closer look at it when he got home. He confirmed the handle and sheath color and also said there is no date code on the blade.

Does anyone have info on this particular model? Was it a special run for a retailer like Bass Pro Shops?

Best,
Matthew

All I could find was in the Model History. The 619 with the Olive handle and sheath was the "Gamemate". The model was 619OD and started in '85. Same as the 619 Woodmate, but olive Kraton handle. Catalog #1088.

I'm sure one of the gurus will be along with more information.

Yes, the 619 was offered with an olive handle. I think most of the mates were. A 6" blade like a 119. If it was a 1985 mfg. it would not have a date stamp. DM

I found that model in my 1987 Buck catalog with the olive handle and showing both the camo sheath and the black. So, it was offered for some time from Buck and in their catalog. DM

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the answers. I never thought to check the Model History page.

David - I looked at the Kraton knives page in the '87 catalog on the BCCI site and only saw the 639OD Fieldmate.

That 619 on the picture is not the one you are looking for. But as I remember there was not only a 619 with a dark green handle. It has another name as the black one too. There was a thread a long time ago, but I couldn't flnd it now. Will have another search later.

I have one in my locker. OD green handle, camo sheath.

I allso have one in black - black handle, black sheath. No paperwork with either. Bought them new a long time ago and tossed the papers.
Basically a 119 shaped blade with different handle and sheath.

M.and, you're correct concerning the picture in the catalog. But one could surmise the other way too. If both colors are shown, what's to stop Buck from offering other models in that color? Which is what we see happening. It is more like a cutlery company. DM
