Information Needed on Heavy/Active Duty

Good Morning to You All,

I'm hoping that some of you wiser hogs can provide me with some enlightening information/Busse lore on a knife I have. It's a dark green coated/green micarta (linen?) Active Duty I have had for a while - I haven't used it yet, but I have been planning to start carrying it on some Virginia day hikes because I really like its feel and solid heft.

This morning I noticed that it seems just about thick as my EDC Game Wardens (a Lep, a Muddy, and a Black Tiger). When I measured it as best I could on a cheap non-digital caliper, the Active Duty came out a little bit thicker than the Lep GW (.195?) and even just slightly thicker than the Muddy or Black Tiger (.20?).

My question is: Could this be a Heavy Duty and, if so, how rare/how many green/green HDs were made? I still plan to start carrying/using it unless you all think its better not to (and no, I'm not sending it to you for safe keeping).
I'll try to post some photos.

Thanks,
"Bloody Bill"

Heavy Duties - as far as I remember there were around 90 of them - 30 tan/tan, 30 black/black and 30 green/green. I don't remember the exact thickness of them.

My mistake - the third combo was green blade with black canvas micarta handle - I used to have one just like that - very cool  (not green/green).

"The Busse Company Store Heavy Duty answers the call for those who prefer a thicker blade for every day carry. The .211" thick blade features a 2/3 height flat ground blade for excellent cutting geometry and exceptional strength in such a light blade."

They were available in three combos:
Black/Black Canvas
Tan/Tan Canvas
Green/Black Canvas

Drew - so how do you tell the difference between an HD and one of the thicker ADs? Just the .02+/- difference in the thickness?

I don't know why the hell its called a heavy duty.. The thickness is barely any different from a normal AD... ???

Beat it up .. not safe queen material..

Original Active Duties were 0.15" thick. That's why Heavy Duties were called Heavy. They were released after the second line of Active Duties (wich were offered with SFNOs), but long before another part of Duties - Mill Ganza Duties (I think they were offered on Mill Ganza), which were quite similar in thickness to heavy duties - 0.2" if i remember correctly.

Interesting .......... I thought only the LEs were .15" and a few Satin variants...

Thanks for the info !

I have some HD's and some Milli Ganza AD's (and some original Custom Shop .150's :p)

My HD's are > .2 the Milli's are just under .2, combine with the height of the plunge line is how I tell.

You need both examples to tell them apart, if your looking at just a single example, it's more difficult to tell, but set an HD along side a milliganza AD and the difference in saber grinds is obvious.

The HD's as Drew's post stated, have 2/3 saber grind, the milli AD's have a lower saber grind (7/12ths ), in English, the plunge line doesn't go up as high on the milli AD.

CS (.150), HD(.203), Milli (.197), Milli (.198)

The pic needs better contrast to really show the difference.

Thanks JJPS! I don't have any of the Milli-Duties, so I wouldn't have known about the difference in the saber grind heights.
I can easily tell the difference with mine cuz my ADs are the original Satin/SS and the HD set has been kept under wraps since this pic.

I just noticed in comparing my HDs to a milli ADs that the Talon holes on my HDs are slightly smaller than the ADs. Anyone else notice the same thing??

Good eye

Yes, I'd forgotten about that, you can see it to some degree on the pic I posted.

Same for the milli (tweaner) Meaners

The OD/GL your describing sounds like the one that came right after the miliganzas, and were sold at the BCS. Mine measured right at .20, before I sent it to Ban. There seemed to be a good many.

Did you get this one before the miliganzas came out, or not long after?

edit- I was also thinking the HD was not made in OD/GL, but OD/Black micarta. The one by the tan/tan in Drew's pic looks like od/black canvas.
