I have always had a fascination with the Bowie knife from the 1956-58 television show "The Adventures of Jim Bowie," enough to earn some strong discipline from my dad for sticking my mom's butcher knife into our huge fur tree (dad obviously had no interest in my becoming an expert knife thrower with the Bowie knife). I recently bought the DVD set of the Jim Bowie show and have rekindled my interest in owning a replica of this knife. Using the internet, I have learned the knife was patterned after the knife used in the movie "The Iron Mistress." In the early episodes, Bowie wears two knives: one has an oval plaque on the left side of the handle; the other does not. I know the "Iron Mistress" Bowie has a blade length of 10 ½ inches, while the knife in the TV show looks closer to 12 inches (this is an estimate from measuring the length of the handle versus the blade length while the TV is on freeze frame-not very scientific I know). So now its time to ask the experts, you guys, if anyone can give me any information on the TV Bowie knife, particularly blade length and width. Also, does anyone know of a knife maker who could make me a replica? I know that a company called Generation2 made a close replica of the Iron Mistress, but it is sold out (the story of my life). So, if anyone can give my any information, I would certainly appreciate it. I promise not to stick it in any fur trees.
