I've had this for years, not sure where it even came from. Possibly my father bought it in a garage sale. Just looking for general information on it, not looking for value. It seems extremely well built. It is very thin, but like I said, construction is outstanding. Markings on blades include INOX (stainless) and Solingen, made by Hoffritz. Anyone else have something similar? I assume the scales are stamped brass? Were these more novelty items?

Found variations on the net.

Here's a similar style knife that was advertised in an old Hoffritz catalog. H herder might have more examples from Hoffritz. The basic pattern is very popular. The Victorinox Classic is possibly the knife most often confiscated at airports. The black color is probably enamel. Not sure of the metal. Some have a very thin aluminum type metal that is gold or silver in color. Neat gift from your dad

Not a novelty item.
That is a fine example of a classic Gentleman's Knife. :)
Who knows? The original owner may have been a business executive, judge, scientist, or other "white collar" worker.

Yeah, it seems it is basically a Vic Classic in the gentleman form without the toothpick and tweezers, LOL. Thanks for the info and catalog cut.

There is a chance it could be "Toledo" gold. A search will show you what to look for.

I have several of those, and they're nice little knives. I've also lost a few at airports...

To add to what supratentorial and others have stated :
Hoffritz was an importer and not manufacturer, who imported mostly German made knives such as this one. These small Brass handled gentlemen's knives were quite popular in the 1950s and 1960s, and many German cutlery companies offered them. As eisman mentioned, these models were generally called "Toledo" types which refereed to that style of handle.
Enclosed is an ad from 1958 showing a similar model along with a J. A. Henckels model.

Hello.
I'm trying to find more information on the Cigar Smoker's Knife (A-15) listed to the left in this photograph. I have come upon a very fine example and am trying to find out more about it. When and where it was made? (I assume Germany in the 40's to 50's?) Any information would be helpful. Thank you kindly for your time.
Jesse
