Hello,

I was just wondering if there was any website on the internet where I can look up the history of early Mad Dog knives? I have a friend who purchased a knife from an estate today. The gentleman it was purchased from was talking about being in the Air Force stationed in Arizona back in the 1970's and having this knife custom made. The knife is engraved Mad Dog "Mai-Te".

Looking on the internet I was able to find Kevin McClung and I see the knives he made for the military but nothing even close to what this knife looks like. This knife is a short and heavy tanto blade knife. Just wondering what his early custom knives look like.

I saw the link yesterday. Brass guard, soldered . Nothing remotely close to the current or past popular Mad Dog knives.

I don't think Mr. McClung is old enough to have made knives in the early seventies. I could be wrong. He has a page on Facebook. Go there?

Good luck, and welcome.

Need some more pics but it looks like some of the work that was shown in early Fighting Knives Magazine before the ATAK knives appeared.

I knew Kevin back in the early 90s. He was making knives on one side of a little saddle shop here in our little mountain town. I was friends with the saddle maker and use to hang out some in his shop getting hints on leather work. I bought a knife from Kevin, a small type edc. Got me started in making sheaths as it didn't come with one. Paid $125 for the knife but it wasn't very useful as it was very thick and didn't cut well. Since it didn't cut I quit carrying it and it lived on my leather bench for sometime. Then it broke and I tossed it. While I didn't know Kevin well I too doubt he was making knives in the early 70's just due to age.

Far as I know he's been a subcontractor for the CIA since age 6 so 77' is totally feasible. But I kid, it looks very cool and I am sure it is worth a small fortune.

Where's the photos? Host them somewhere, please?
