Went with my other half to the casino, our agreement is I will go along if we check pawn shops for knives. At one in C'dA I found these. They are out of my normal realm. What is the steel for the Alpha Hunter, I assume something special for a BOS treatment. For the 110, it looks to be more of a drop point plus afterwards I noticed the steel luster does not follow along with my other 110's

I can't tell much about the knives because the pictures won't expand for me. Do they for you?

If the Alpha has a Bos stamp on it, it will say what kind of steel it is. If there's no stamp, it's 420HC but I've never seen one with the wood handles that didn't have the premium steel.

Sorry about the mix up I emailed off my phone and that's all I got. 0328131712.jpg0328131713.jpg0328131713a.jpg0328131713b.jpg The photos still did not turn out well, maybe in the morning. The 110 looks to me to be a 2012 but with a drop type point. I recieved each of these for about what I spend on a standard knife. Just wondering what I got and how to list in my file system.

Thanks

The 110 looks like to me that it may have been reprofiled. I thought at first it was had blade from the Bucklite Max but now I can see the 110 stamp, so that's out.

The blade material on the Alpha is 12C27M Sandvik steel as it says right on the blade.

Can you check the blade length of the 110?

Your Alpha should also have a date stamp on it, but the 12C27M was only offered in 2010 through 2012.

Bingo the Alpha date stamp is 2010, I am not up on the steels, I will have to do my home work. The 110 as you thought was re profiled. the blade is 1/4 of an inch short. I thought the nail notch was different but after comparing with several of my other newer 110's it matches. A lesson learned, at least I didn't spend abnormally high for it, who ever did it did a nice job. Thanks Plumber

I agree with this statement. It will still make a great user knife.

Very nice pair of knives. The 110 scales are real nice and go great with the NS. The Alpha hunter is one of my favorite styles. With the BOS blade is a real plus.

Who ever reprofiled the blade did it the right way (top down to the sharp edge) in my opinion. Being 1/4" short, if they had gone from the cutting edge upwards (as so many do) the point of the blade would have been above the liners on the finger side of the handle when closed. I've seen a few done that way and they are just a hazard. Like the 112 shown below.

Besides, the drop point look is more pleasing to the eye.

I have had several of the 110/112 verity that have needed to be set down. some time ago there was a thread on doing that that has been very helpful.

Hey Dave, your example can also happen from a lot of sharpening.

I found a 110 that was a hazard and I took a bit of the kick off and fixed it. Yes, it was a poor reprofile. It won't cut my finger any more when I take it out of the sheath.
