What is the best way to sharpen the scandi grind ?
Anything "special" need be done ?
This may have been covered already, but I can't find it if it has been .....
Thankx in advance.........

An easy & economical method is to use several grades of wet/dry emory paper from 220-320-400-600-and higher grits glued to a thin foam mousepad to shape the bevels of a Scandi. I have never felt the need for the mousepad, but others swear by it.

Practically, I have never needed to give any of my Scandi grinds a full resharpening as I typically will leather strop them after use to bring out a scary sharp edge.

You may also want to visit the "other Forum" and visit their Scandi section where this method is discussed in more detail.

Thanks guys....

CWL .. thanks for the info.

morrowj_98 ..... That is what I needed...... the "total package".

These work really well too:
Pocket Water Stones

These small pocket stones are perfect for touching up tools when you are not near the shop.
At 4" x 1", they are ideal for carrying on the job in a pocket or tackle box. The 3/4" thick 1000x is for general-purpose work and the 5/8" thick 4000x will put a mirror finish on knives, gouges, and chisels.

And these:
Credit Card Diamond Plate
These are the size and shape of a credit card (3 1/4" by 2"). They come in several grades. I stock coarse (250 grit), fine (600 grit) and super fine (1200 grit), as well as a two card set with medium (400 grit) and super-fine. I've taken a two card set and glued super fine paper (7 micron) to the back for a strop. This is what I carry with my camp gear. I don't carry the set in my wallet because two plates make the wallet a little heavy. In my wallet, I carry a fine grade (in the shape of the two sided plate above) with the strop on the back. With the plastic sleeve it weighs a bit under 1 1/2 ounces. Made in the USA
A single plate in Coarse, Fine or Extra Fine costs $10,
the two plate set with Medium and Extra Fine costs $20

I find the diamond plate 1200 is very fast at making the 3V sharp again but scuffs the bevel up a bit more than the stones which if you use both pretty much polish the bevel more than original.

Thakx "hd" ....... these look very useful. I'll have to get them...

Yes....those cards are awesome!

I also like these for honing at home:

last a long time....stay flat/straight...don't need to be lapped...diamonds = more aggressive...

The best kind is an 8 inch on a fixed base (plastic box w/ rubber stoppers). You can do a lot of sharpening with it.
