I just joined this forum after having searched and done some research on various knives. I don't go to knife shows (don't know if there are ever any in my area) and only recently started looking up knives online. This is a great resource.

I would like someone to give me some links or company names and knife names for blades that might be considered bowies (sort of), tactical fixed blades, or Persian-type fighters or hybrids. To give you an idea, here is a list of knives designed in the manner that I'm looking for:

Randall Model 1
Randall Model 14
Randall Model 16, SF#1
Blackjack #1, 7" (same as Randall Model 1)
Greco Companion
Becker Magnum Camp
Mission Knives MPK or MPT
Mineral Mountain Persian Skinner
Entrek Bison or Ranger

Hopefully that helps with the blade and handle design. There are so many makers and companies that I don't really want to go through each and every one looking for the designs that appeal to me. Can anyone give me any help?

You can check out mine at: http://www.ICCKnives.com

If you have a design you want made, I do that too. My Combat Model 5 with a black T finish will also be in Tactical Knives, on sale one month from now. They did a field test write up.

Thanks for the info so far, guys.

The Randall site I already knew about, of course. I got away from Randalls some time ago, actually. I had several at one time (not older collector's ones but 1990's production standard stuff) but got rid of all of them. I liked them, but I found others that I liked more. The Model One is probably my all-time favorite but I started buying Blackjack Knives at dealer price at Cecil Clark's Cutlery in Newport, Kentucky and never went back to the Randalls. I just hate it that Blackjack went out of business. Someone is now producing a few knives under the Blackjack name again, I understand. I still like Randalls, but more and more I am regarding knives as nothing more than (this is blasphemous on this board, probably) sharp pieces of steel that are perishable items, anyway. As time goes on and I accumulate things like a mortgage, wife, children, etc., I find that I don't have the money to be a collector, anymore, and I can't afford to spend high $$$ on a knife that I'm going to abuse much. With that said I do, of course, sometimes (often?) violate that philosophy.

The ICC knives are very nice. I saw the site several days ago. I fell in love with the Model One Combat Knife. Very nice and right in line with my feelings about what a knife should be. The object to my owning one is the price.

Mayo Knives? I had heard of them, of course and looked at the web site. I've even been asked if I was related to Tom Mayo. At times I've replied "No, I'm not"...however, I have also replied, "yeah, I'm his son". Sorry, Tom...bet you didn't know that you had a bastard floating around. I like your knives, too. Not to compare, but some of them remind me of a Walter Brend knife that I sold (to my regret).

You know what, Tom? You should make a knife to my specifications and call it "The Bastard".

Harold,

Welcome!! You just missed a show near here two weeks ago (and another within 3hrs drive last weekend) and there are several a year within easy driving distance. Contact me if you'd like some other local "less than retail" alternatives to Cecil Clark, that deal in quality cutlery.
