Hi,
I recently found this image of replica scabbards for historical European spear heads while doing some research. Ive never seen this particular method of retention, using a wooden pin or dowel to keep the scabbard in place. I imagine the pin would be secured to the scabbard using a cord so it wont be lost. Quite ingenious, very simple yet perfectly effective. I just wanted to share this, perhaps it will inspire someone or give you new ideas. I will probably replicate this myself for at least one of my spear heads.
People never really talk about spear sheaths or scabbards, but they were very much a common thing. Mostly they aren’t preserved in archaeological finds.
