My Dad just gave me this really large slipjoint that belonged to my Grandpa. According to Dad, He bought it new. From what I've been able to find, it was made somewhere between 1965-1969. Can any experts confirm this? Scales appear to be wood, but I'm not certain. So far all I have done is clean the blades with some 000 steel wool and oil the pivots. I wish i had the original belt sheath. Off to the Bay to search for a replacement. Just felt like sharing. Apologies for my poor photo skills. Thanks.

Well, first off congrats, thats a beautiful knife and one of my favorite patterns.
Secondly your knife was made in 1987, but that doesn't change anything for me. I love that knife and I can see it meant something to your grandfather, he took good care of it.

I think the scales are bone. I've not seen many jigged wood scales.

1987 huh? Thanks for the correction. I would have thought it older than that. Apparently I misread the case dating guide I fffound online. Regardless of its age I'm thankful and excited to have it.

7 dots + 'lightning S' in the 'CASE' name = 1983 year of production.

1980 would show 10 dots. A dot would be removed for each subsequent year, finishing in 1989 with one dot remaining. On your knife, 3 dots are removed from the original 10, so that makes it 1983.

Handles are wood. I think Case refers to it as 'Stamina Wood'. Stabilized laminate, I think.

Well, my education continues. Thanks for the info. I've really gotten into traditional blades here lately. There is much to learn. I've been carrying this knife in my backpocket most of the day...... It's heavy.
