This knife belonged to my Father, but I don't know that he ever carried or used it. From what I can tell from the online catalog, it's a Model 8 Trout and Bird knife.

I have plenty of knives, but this is my first Randall. Can anyone clue me in to when this one was made? Any help is appreciated. :)

Regards,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Welcome to Randalls :) I put it mid to late 80's. I believe it's a 4" Model 5 and not a model 8 based on the blade grind. It would be tough to come up with a better using knife. I hope you give it a try sometime.

Best,

Ron

Thanks Ron!

Does that mean that the sheath is a mismatch based on the "8 4 S" stamp on the back?

Not necessarily, Jim. 8-4's were more popular than 5-4's, so the shop would likely have 8-4 sheaths in stock while they may have been out of 5-4 sheaths. It wasn't uncommon for them to ship a knife in a sheath that would "fit" even though it was made for a different model: Larger 5's would ship in 1 sheaths. 3's would ship in 4 sheaths, etc. My guess is that your sheath is original to the knife.

Best,
