Hey guys, I just inherited two Randall's from my grandfather's estate but don't know anything about these. He gave me a #6 Little Bear Bowie years ago, but these have no number markings on the sheaths or anything. Any identifying information would be appreciated!

Mod 14 stnls. forward curve hilt white micarta border patrol handle?Mod 16 divers knife on bottom?Late 80's to early 90's looking scabbards? My guess anyhoo,I bet somebody will know fer sure and let us know.Nice blades, your grandfather liked quality.

Willis, nope. ;)

Kenny, welcome; sorry to hear about your loss. That said, nice inheritance; your Grandpa did you well. Both are late 1980's/early 1990's (pre-Jan 1995) manufacture Randall Model #14's 'Attack' knives. The top knife is known as a CDT for 'Cut-Down Tang' (all Model #1 options available) and has a white Micarta or Micarta-like (known by many names) handle in the SFG 'Single Finger Groove' handle style with stainless steel blade and optional FCH 'Forward Curved Hilt (that looks like it may be nickel-silver). The second knife is a standard Randall Model #14, with the exception of the upgraded stainless steel blade and Model #1 style hilt that could also be nickel-silver. Both are very nice examples. May they serve you well both in memory and use. Thanks for the share.

Hope that helps,

Shel

Wow, that was incredibly helpful and much appreciated! I will cherish them greatly. Thanks Shel!

Shel are you sure about the second knife in question? To my old eyes it as a standard double guard model 16 with a "C" sheath. Can't tell the guard material from the picture.

If it's a Model #16 it's in the wrong sheath. A model #16 will be roughly 1.125" from blade spine to blade edge; a Model #14 roughly 1.250". Could be you're all right and I'm not. Happens all the time... :)

Shucks G Man blame it on the hand forged ,with no jigs or patterns involved, method by which RMK's are made.I don't wanna hijack the thread but when did the dual stitching on the sheaths come about? My 14 that I got in 87 has a single row of stitching and the hone pocket is the older style.

Willis, double stitching on the Model #14/#18 sheaths is something that Greg Gutcher, Sr. of Sullivan's Holster Shop started with his large C model sheath deliveries in late 1986. Sullivan's became the sole leather sheath maker for RMK since January of 1992. Of note, only approximately 100 of the smaller #15/#17/#18-5.5 C model sheaths produced for the first deliveries in 1987 were double stitched.

Hope that helps,

Shel

Man sorry about your loss. But those are 2 great knives to remember him and I personly would carry the bottom one and keep the top one mint. Gramps would be with you on every outdoor adventure!! Very cool keepsakes! When my grandfather passed my uncles took and sold all his stuff and us grand kids got nothing. He was a outdoorsman like me and I always wished I could've had so thing of his.
