Hello BUCK-aroos! I'm a frequent flier on the Traditional, and Schrade forums at BF, but a newby here at Buck. My Dad left me a knife among 50 or so, back in '89, that he'd had for a number of years. It comes with a nicely fitted walnut box, with a dark red liner, and a plaque inside, and the cardboard sleeve shown.
My questions are, when was it made/customized, and if it's fair to ask, how much is it worth?? Any and all information is welcome, Thanks!

The two dots on either side of the 110 indicate that the knife was manufactured between 1981 and 1986. Here's a link for future ref.

Yellow horse customized knives are highly collectible. For a quick value check you can try an ebay search.
I don't collect them. However, you've come to the right place. I'm sure someone will be along shortly that can give you more information.
BTW, it's a very nice piece.
Good luck.....Mike

As Mike indicated your Yellowhorse knife, a 112, is very collectible and was made sometime after 1983. The horse was the first of many designs that David Yellowhorse created. The satin finished blade that you have means it is an early example. Later versions were with polished blades. I would say in excellent condition, the knife is worth $250 plus. (but then again, what do I know :o ) I only say that since the first Yellowhorse 112 that shows up in Blades guide in 1987 says it is valued at $250. As you know, when it comes to knives, one can never tell exactly what the market will bear.

David Yellowhorse signature should be stamped in block letters on the left rear bottom of bolster as your picture stands, sold for $340.00 as Mike says what ever the market will bear on value now. They came in a set of four sold individually . Model 112,102,704 ???

This look right to you'all?
I'm assuming that it's better not to polish the tarnish off the knife. The brass has a little patina, which I kind of like , anyway.

Thanks to Earl and the Mikes (sounds like a band!), for your info to date!!

(applause) You put on a great show, guys!

Waynorth great looking yellowhorse. i just sold one on e-bay about a mounth ago, i think i got around 235.00 for it. but i have seen them go a little higher than that. i hope this help's you.

Thanks JJ. It's always good to have actual comparison's. Was your knife from the same time frame?

The stamping does indicate an earlier one. The 112dy first appeared in a Buck catalogue in 1987, had a suggested retail of about $250, and there were over 6100 made. Haveing the Yellowhorse stamped on instead of engraved like on later versions does set it apart somewhat.
The dots date it from about 1981 to about 1985, which begs the question of how that is possible if they did not appear in a catalogue until 1987.
We actually started selling them in 1986 so that closes the gap some.

Thanks for taking an interest, Joe!! It's a great pleasure to get some background info from someone in the know!

Hey Mike or anyone else. My wife bought me a Yellowhorse knife back in the late 70's or early 80's? It was a Scharde LB 3 lil folder. Can anyone help me out? Any "info" would be great!
Dan
