Initial impression of case peanut

A weeks ago a bought my first peanut. A yellow CV. I am very very impressed. Fit and finish are good. My case vintage knives are a little better in fit and finish but not by much. A few very small gaps near the springs but very small. A little blade play but it doesn't bother me. The size allows the peanut to disappear in my pocket. It is big enough for 90% of what I need it for. For $30 it is awesome.

My only grip is the cv seems to take awhile to form a patina compared to my vintage case and my gecs 1095 knives.

I love my two GECs. My GECs are not perfect but they are high quality. To be honest, for the price of the GECs knives, I would expect them to be 99.99% perfect which they are not. When I first got my case peanut, I was blown Away that for $30, I can get a knife that IMO is not far behind GECs quality. If GEC is a 8.5/10, then my case peanut is a 7/10.

I can't wAit to buy the swayback jack. If it is a bit higher quality than the peanut (from what I hear), then I can get a knife that is so close to GEC quality for $60 or so bucks.

The Case peanut is a great little knife. The blades are polished more than GEC blades, so that is why it takes longer to get a patina.

Joe, if you like that peanut, you'll love the swayback!

I agree, for the money, the Case peanut is a good value.

Glad to hear you like it. The yellow Delrin Peanut is a real forum classic. When you get both blades screaming sharp, you'll surprise the small knife naysayers, they just work out of proportion to their size.

you are the second person this week to report their peanut has wobbly blades

I would not tolerate that, I would return it to the dealer for replacement with one that has zero wobble.

Sending it to Case is not a good option, they take 6 weeks to turn a knife around, and sometimes it comes back unfixed.

Glad you are happy with your new knife, I think you could do better than accept a wobbly one, but its your call.

[/IMG]"A little blade play" in a brand new $30 knife would bother me a lot. It's reports like this that make me extremely hesitant to buy any new Case products. Especially when I can get a vintage Schrade carbon 12OT, tight as a snare drum, for $4.

"I can get a knife that is so close to GEC quality for sixty bucks"......?!! For 14 bucks more you can get a GEC #55 ;-)

I'll leave showing those pics to Arizonaranchman.

BTW, I don't hate Case, I am expecting a vintage red bone barlow in the mail on Thursday to pair with a 50s Case daddy barlow I hooked on the Bay a year ago.
Good luck in your quest.

A pic in every post!

Congrats on your new Peanut. Now the blade play i personally would not tolerate, but thats up to you. The problem being it will worsen with use.
