Greetings all, it seems there is little Barkie love or information here... just got another one today. I received a nice antique ivory handled Blackwater Boot knife from Knifecenter's Bark River blow-out.
Initial impression: it is a small knife. Once you get past that, it is one heck of a great pocket knife. It is a sub 3" very pointy convexed edged blade of 12c27 steel. It comes with a rather sexsay carbon fiber sheath with a belt clip. This set-up works well for IWB carry, but doesn't seem to hold well enough as a pocket clip. I ended up taking the clip off and just slip it into my pocket. There are two holes at the tip end of the sheath that can be utilized for neck-knife carry.
This knife is one heck of a cutter, has already zipped through a bunch of cardboard boxes at work like a hot knife through butter. I love the pointy profile, should prove to be very useful.
I wouldn't expect it to be a great SD knife, but is certainly better than nothing. Where it will excel is at just about any normal duty a pocket knife would at. It would probably make a decent small game or bird knife too.
Heck of a good little knife, glad I bought it.

Mongo baby--nice write-up. I'm interested. Can the sheath be switched to lefty carry? How thick is the knife throught the thickest part of the handle? Does it have a lanyard hole? What type of grind?

Thanks.

I have the exact same knife myself. I was very impressed by the fit and finish, the feel and the handling. It is small yes but certainly useful. Whipped it out at a cheese and wine do the other night and the normally sheeple squares were really taken by the looks of the knife. Fine cutter and a looker.

Don't like that sheath though, you are right the clip is crap for pocket carry.I've ordered a leather sheath as I feel it suits the look of the knife more.

I have a few Barkies and I'm proud of all of them, fantastic finish and enviable choice.

In eyeballin' the clip, I don't think it would work as well if you switched it to the other side. The sheath is mini tec-loc compatible as I understand, so that can be adapted to lefty carry. It is about 3/8" at the thickest part of the handle. It does have a lanyard hole, and it is a full convex grind... wicked sharp!

Nice to see this type of steel being used in a fairly high end knife. It is well suited to a very thin convex grind. I like very precise tips on small utility knives as well.

I have a special edition Slither. It's the sharpest knife I own, convex zero edge. With a 5 inch blade it is good as a back up (static cord iwb) to my BHP and useful for assorted chores.

It also has the excellent fit and finish that Bark River is known for.

congrats on the Blackwater score Mongo...did u get that from Knifecenter or Knifework's blowout..... ?
I scored a Nebula from the works' blowout sale...

I just got a very handsome leather sheath for my Blackwater.Came through the post from Dan at jreindustries.com Extremely pleased with it,really compliments the knife as it is in black leather (never been keen on natural or light leather, dark colours me) The clip on it is much superior to the original and I can now carry the knife safely in a trouser pocket or jacket.

Incidentally, what kind of boot is one supposed to use with a boot-knife?
