I have been looking for awhile and doing a lot of research on some type of large fixed/axe/hatchet to fulfill my need for a good blade for camping/hiking/survival/yard work. I finally decided a bk9 was one of the best bang for your buck. (And it looks cool). Anyway just got it today and of course the first thing that I am compelled to do is chop something. Seeing that I've neglect to prune our Cleveland pear tree I decided that it was time. Who care if it's 95 degrees out with a heat index of 105. Well my wife came out after the mayhem and wanted to know what I've done to our poor tree. I think it looks better. Very happy with the purchase. I love the grivory handles. I like the texture and the new green. Also this thing really bites deep when chopping! Of course it is pretty soft wood. And still shaving sharp afterward.

Welcome!!

You made a good choice. A well made tool of good design. It is just the thing for a bit of primal pruning. A silky saw and a decent axe would be useful too, but they don't have the X factor like the '9.

Now, what are you going to do with all the prunings?

Best wishes from New Zealand

Congrats on the new steel. You made a hell of a good choice. One of my all time favorite blades. Welcome to the forum.

You obviously don't post much  :D, but when you finally do, great first post.

Welcome to the funhouse and congrats on you first Becker and first post. May they not be the last of either. :D

Every time we go camping I say I need some better tools. Along with the Becker 9 my dad has an old double bit axe with a bad handle that he's letting me have to fix up. I may look into a good folding saw.

I have a feeling me and those pruned branches are going to have another meeting this afternoon. I need more practice with it before our next trip...at least that's my excuse.

I've lurked around here long enough...it was time. I've learned a lot on these forums, the least I could do is post some cool pics. :D

Excellent choice. You can't beat a 9 in either variation. If you look for a saw, I must say the Bahco Laplander is an excellent choice. Congrats on the 39!
