Initial Impressions of the Southard

First of all. The previously reported criticisms of this knife: I like the pocket clip. Doesn't bother me at all. Not TOO sharp. The blade stop being made of the G10 looks just right to me. The asymmetry regarding the thickness of the handles; I don't notice it all but now that I'm cognizant of this, it actually is growing on me. I don't consider this an issue at all. The only criticism that I have is that the jimping (sp?) on the blade could be a bit more aggressive.

The fit and finish is amazing. very tight tolerances. perfect blade centering. ergonomics feel almost as good as the para2. flipper works perfectly. and something than i'm really glad to see is that the CTS 204P steel sharpens really easy with the sharpmaker. I am very pleased with this knife. I think it is actually a bargain for what you get. For me, it is the perfect EDC. Spyderco is really growing on me. I'm very impressed with quality, functionality, and durability of these knives.

Anyway to get a shot of the blade stop? I didn't realize it was G10. Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding what is being referred to as the blade stop.

Only carried mine for two days but so far I too like the clip.
Funny you say that about the jimping, I typically prefer it more aggressive as well. However, I like the finished feel of these. The knife as a whole seems nicer finished then most other spyderco custom collbas in regards to smoothness so had the blade jimping been more aggressive it would of possibly thrown the funk-shay/chi of this beauty out of whack :p Jus my opinion :)

Not up to speed with the G10 insert, why or what its purpose if there is one over convential (if that even makes sense?) but I sure as heck think it looks knarly. Great job crew.

ETA- Of all the custom collabs I have owned, this one, minus the hole, feels the least spyderco influenced then any of them imo. Just really different and I like that a lot.

It's the lock bar stop.

Those are some great first impressions. I'm in agreement with you. Just got my own Southard on Friday and have not been able to put it down. I have owned 4 knives from Spyderco that were made in Taichung, and two of them have become the only Spyderco's left that I own (Southard and Chokwe). Fit and finish is spectacular.
