I've seen a lot of people knock Wegner but they happen to put out the combo I've been looking for in a SAK. And it was only $10. They call it the Highlander, think Tinker with a nail file in place of the little blade. Fit and finish is pretty darn good, outstanding for the price. Good walk and talk, blade fairly sharp. The translucent scales give it a non-traditional look, but it kinda matches the Princeton-Tec
Attitude in my other pocket. Does Victorinox have Wegner beat in F&F? Yeah, but not by much. I really would have liked the green or blue one, but they were almost twice as much as the red one. Go figure.

And the money I saved by not getting the blue one netted me a Tramontina Bolo machete. Not bad for six bucks. In the past I've paid more for the cheap plastic handled numbers they sell at the hardware store. It's not consistantly sharp for it's whole length, but nothing too terrible. The handle is pretty good for a $6 machete. Maybe come tax time I can pick up a Martindale but in the mean time I don't think the ivy is going to care what I use.

When I use 'em some I can give a real review but my feeling is that it was $22 well spent. So there you go, two knives for the poor and cheap;)

Personally, between wenger and victorinox, I would go with victorinox every time. wenger does not make bad knives, but the thin blade profile, I do not care for. I do have two wenger knives I really do like though (actually I have quite a few, but these are my favorites). One is the issue soldier model, I like it better than the victorinox version since it has the lanyard bail. The other would be my Dad's old wenger that is now around 50 (something) years old. It has the old type of can opener, the handles are pinned on and the metal shield is quite pretty. It is also marked "wengerinox". One of the stories Ive heard about this is that victorinox were outselling wenger so wenger added on the word "inox" (french for stainless) to make their name smiliar to victorinox to help their sales. Now whether this is true, who knows? but it is interesting. With all this said, I do not believe wenger makes a bad knife, but victorinox (in my experience, opinion, etc.) makes a better knife.
