Who puts initials on the lockbar?

Wouldn't only manglers do this because in order to install them disassembly is required?

Example:

Did you notice the lockbar is a little high at the pivot point? Maybe that was the original condition, maybe not.

Good catch. No I didn't notice that.

I did notice how fantastically well the two wood slabs match and how rich in color they are. Almost like made to order.

Looks to be a 2nd/2nd 110. Excellent condition…even with the initials engraved into the thumb press area.

Oh yeah…my dad would have put his initials on it. :)

on many of these old first years knives the lock bar stood high
remember these early folding hunters were mostly a hand made knife

I just looked at the bid war on that knife. I've been watching it on the bay. A grand+ so far

I don't think that knife has ever been worked on since it left the factory. One of my 2nd Version variations has initials inscribed on the brass end. Lots of guys marked their knives & guns with an electric pencils, their tools too.

I am just saying, sometimes someone might put some type of special very small ID, say inside the blade well of their knives. You know like knives taken to knife shows or out in open display cabinets. Then the cops got something to look for at the pawn shops.....metal etching in blade wells of folders only. I have no personal experience with long knives. PS Dremels are amazing tools aren't they.

That's why I said "Maybe that was the original condition ..." Some of my old 110s have a few rough spots, even though they are in excellent condition. That's also why I smile a little when people start moaning about some new knife that isn't perfect. It's a good thing they don't collect the old ones.

The current owner told me that those three initials mean nothing to him. They are not his father's and they are a mystery to him.

Possibly marked at the factory to track this build, proud assembler, quality control marking or add your reason for the three initial on a new knife that was not marked by either of two owners when you have a chain of ownership from purchase to today...
