Initiating my first RC-4 on a wild boar!

Just got my first RC4 in the mail not long ago and took it with me on my first boar hunt as well. I've been slobbering over online pictures of this knife for what seems like 2 years now. Now I have my own and MAN am I satisfied! Everything about it is perfect for what I want and need, especially the MOLLE compatibility for my TA-50 gear (I'm an Infantryman in the Army). Simply amazing quality Rat Cutlery! Thankyou for such a great knife.

Anyway...on to the pictures! This was my first big game hunt, and my first wild boar. Perfect job for the RC4 right? I have the knife strapped to my web belt using the paracord style. Simple, easy, and I didn't have to worry about getting boar guts all over it. Not even boar's skin can stand up to this RC4, which I have renamed to "Iuguolo" meaning "Butcher" in Latin. It also means "throat cutter" but that's besides the point...

My first boar:

Can't wait to use my knife:

Happy so far, the knife is doin great:

Precision slicing:

Not afraid to get it dirty! Another reason I love this knife:

It always looks good, even when soaked in blood and guts:

I had a buddy of mine (a professional butcher) come over and take out the loins and hams and wrap em up for me. He used his own knife because I won't let anyone use my new prized possession. What an awesome day. Not only my first big game hunt, but I was able to implement and initiate the indomitable RC4. Thanks again Rat Cutlery. Hooah!

Just bought one of those with orange g10! can't wait to get it. Looks like you cut that boar up pretty easily.

Nice post and utilization of your blade! I love the way my RC6 and RP blades handle the rigors of processing wild game.

nice job, used to have 200 of those an hour come at me on the line.
Is that a javelina/pecarry or a small feral hog and what did you use to knock him down with. Dog's, baiting etc......

Let your butcher friend try your knife, convert another to RAT brother... he will take care of it.

Watch him do one side and take a "stab" at cutting and wrapping the other next time. Most people are just too tentative fully butchering and processing at first, just a little practice and willingness to try, it still tastes good hacked up a little.

knock the shoulders off the edge of your knife, I find it a little thick on the rc-4 vs rc-6
even if you do not convex it (you should) it will perform better for you.

My father in law is an inspector for USDA and cut his teeth on the floor processing meat. He can work up a deer in about 1/4 the time it takes me. I try to learn something every time I cut meat but my dad's mantra of "cut out anything you don't want to eat" is pretty much true. :D

Awesome pics man, love to see people aren't afraid to ignore the squeamish people.

Great post! I live here in Florida and have been chompin' at the bit to go hog hunting. I've got a RC-4 on the way; I'd love to carve up a tasty hog with it!

Thanks guys! I think I'm lovin this knife more and more everyday. We're going on a 10 day company field exercise in the woods next week and I'm taking Iuguolo with me. Might return here and give more thumbs up reviews if I can use it for some heavy duty tasks out there.

To the best of my knowledge Brad, I think it was just your basic feral boar hog. When he came in to the feeder I sat there for a good 10 minutes looking through the scope of my buddies .243 at his ass since he was facing away from me the whole time. He just wouldn't turn around. Finally he turned broadside and I nailed him immediately right behind the ear. He dropped like a rock and didn't get back up. "One shot, one kill" as we Infantry say.

Hah, yeah I should show him how great a job the Rat does. Great all around knife, I just can't say enough about how much I love it.

True that. Learning how to process/butcher game myself is on my list of things to do. With practice, even I can make quick work of it.

Now do you mean to give the flat grind a relief behind the edge? I actually just started practicing giving my knives a convex edge the other day after seeing some posts/videos on how to do it. So much easier and effective than the traditional way to sharpen on a stone. Now I can actually get em shaving sharp with the 2000 grit combo and strop as opposed to "just sharp enough" when I use my arkansas stone. Haven't gone convex on the Rat yet but I'm definitely thinking about it. Any tips? Pros/cons?

It definitely gets the job done!

Thanks bud. Hah, I actually thought about leaving the pics in link text form so you guys had to click on them to see the pics. Then I thought better of it, since Rat Cutlery actually has pictures of various blades taking on processing game on their website. Why shouldn't I? Intestines falling out of a boar is a part of life. How do people think we get our pork chops at the grocery store? I pretty generally despise "sheeple".

Congrats. I'm going hog hunting in Texas with my longbow in a few weeks. So far I have only butchered a couple of bear taken with my longbow. I bought the Izula as I think that will handle at least the skinning chores even better!

I'm jealous man! I, too, have a longbow that I long to go hunting with. Just need more practice. Lots of it. I'm a toxophilite to the max.

I wouldn't mind picking up an Izula myself for just that. I bet the Izula would do a better job at skinning than the RC4 because of its smaller size, but the RC4 still gets the job done really well.
