I am thinking of making injection molded handles for fish filet knives. Does anyone have any experience doing this? Anyone know of pitfalls to avoid? Comments would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know which plastics would stick to sand blasted stainless steels like M390 or Elmax?

You need a mold to do that. Those cost thousands to tens of thousands of dollars. A large knife company overcomes that by using the same mold for years for huge numbers of knives.

For a small operation the other handmade grips from wood or other material like G10 is the only way to go.

I can make a mold out of hi temp resin and fiberglass. I already know how to do it. I'm simply looking for things to avoid from people who have already done it - no use reinventing the wheel.

Mods - would you please move this to general knife makers discussion. Thanks

Ok cool, get the machine to inject the plastic next. All the broken injection molded knives I've seen had holes in the tang for the plastic to flow into and secure the handle.
