Does anyone know of any rubber type compounds suitable for knife handles are available? I've actually used multi-layered PlastiDip, and the handle came out being one of the most comfortable I own. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of it's longevity. I've heard PlastiDip doesn't hold up well against deet and other chemicals. This can pose a problem while camping. Any suggestions?

Have you considered "Horse Stall Mats" Mike Fitzgerald send me some. I am trying it out on a paring knife for my M-I-L. She has arthritis and needs something grippy. I believe he got it from US Knifemakers.

You can buy a horse stall mat at Tractor Supply for about $40.00. It is about 4 by 6 feet I think and over 1/2 thick. Its enought to last most knifemakers for the rest of their lives. I have made about 10 knives with it. All customers are very happy with the grippiness. It is fairly hard, made from ground up, pressed tires. I use Acra-glas with pins and have no problems. Seems to resist most everything, including ferric chloride (accidental exposure). I cut it with a wood bandsaw and grind to shape with 50 grit belts. Final finish is with about 320.
For $10.00 (for postage and driving 40 miles to post office and back) I'll send you enough to make 2-3 knives.

Thanks for the info, everyone! But, what I'm looking for is a rubber or similar compound in liquid form to cover the entire tang. I have plenty of mold making experience and want to try some things.
