Last night I got my first tattoo. I have wanted one for years but never pulled the trigger until yesterday. I have an opportunity to do something I've always wanted to do, and that opportunity looks like it is actually going to happen, so this goes hand in hand.

This is my tattoo. It's called the aegishjalmur. It's a Viking rune of protection in combat. It is on the outside of my calf.

The process was an interesting experience and I can see how it could be addictive as I am already planning tat #2.

I would guess some of you also have tattoos. I would be very interested to see a pic and hear the story behind my fellow JK dudes tats.

I'll try to find some pics. I have my chest done and full sleeves on both arms. Asian themes, dragons, tigers, fish, etc. very colorful!

DOn't have any pictures but I have a few, been planning to get more but keeps getting put back :)

My right forearm. One more session and my sleeve will be done.

I will have to post some pictures I am working on a pair of "socks", the main issue now is that my tattoo artist still lives in Michigan.

Ive got a pretty big back piece but no pics.
Ill get the wife to get a picture tonight.
I want my whole chest done, but like everyone else, tats always get pushed to the back of the line.

So, how was your first blasting of ink?
The back of the calf, from what I hear, is a pretty manageable pain to handle.
I love how tats hurt, but also feel kinda good.

Its almost like a zen feeling or meditation when getting tattooed.

My back piece took 4 or 5 three hour sessions to complete. I forget exactly.
Sitting for three straight hours was my limit though.
After three hours I start to get light headed and my vision gets blurry.

There is a certain "zen" aspect. I was a little nervous because it was my first one but once it started it wasn't too bad at all and did become less uncomfortable. This was a fairly simple one as tattoos go, it was all line work with no shading so it went fairly quickly.

I am pretty sure it will not be my last.

Arm shoulder and chest piece is a japaneese dragon

The japaneese cobra was a cover over a crappy old demon ripping out of my skin. 😃

Even though my 3 daughters and wife have them, none for me. I just can't bring myself to blemish this sexy body!

Wow, yeah mine are all a lot less advanced...ie cheaper not even particularly photo worthy either :) love em anyway. They work as mile markers for different stages of my life on some way. Got one when I was 18 which was the start of a very different part of my life like most people and one after I had met my wife and was starting to get ready for life after collage.

Had plans for a third when Sam was. Born... Still planning on it haha and some others for big moments. Either money time gets in the way. The designs were almost secondary to the when for me but I found ones I could link to that point in my life in different some way.

My family name can be traced back to the Saxon's so a variation of this will probably be my next tattoo.

It was sort of a holy symbol for the Saxon's

When I wanted one back in my more paranoid days, I thought of them as just another finger print to identify me. Now at 62, I just dont want one anymore.:D
