Inkosi jimping

I was wondering if anyone has an idea what the large indent in front of the jimping on the inkosi is for? Is it a machining thing? Thanks in advance!

I believe it is just the transition point from rounded to flat

What he said. Never appreciated the CRK explanation though. IMO it would look and feel better if the spine were jimped but without that interruption.
